PRIZE UPDATE:
There is an update to the prize list. :)
There's still time to get your entry in, this contest ends on the 15th.  I apologize that the timer was lost due to losing our super group status. Remember you can withdraw and resubmit to this contest something that is already in this group.
The contest is for both photos and art, as long as all rules are followed. (see below for the rules)
Thank you everyone.

ps- I should note, the 100 :points: that I am offering is not from our group pool, but my own separate points, which I do not include in the group's pool.

In honor of International Cheetah Day I will set up an immediate contest for all cheetah photos and artwork!  Because this is kind of last minute if you already have something go ahead and submit it, or if you have it in the group already remove it from the group then resubmit to our new contest folder labeled "International Cheetah Day Contest".  This is a mini contest so submissions will be open for two weeks only. Our usual timer will be put up to help you keep track.  To support the cheetahs even more the folder will be open to non-members. I will also notify affiliates by note of this contest to try and get more participation. We already have some prizes available which will be listed below. If you are an affiliate or a member who would like to join in and offer prizes, go right head and comment here. I will update the journal as more prizes are added.  We appreciate, in advance, all of your past, present, and future support! This group's participation in previous contests have been AWESOME! Let's keep the trend going!
Below are the rules:

:bulletred: The theme is cheetahs. All entries must have cheetahs in them and can be art or a photograph. (In other words no crafts, clothes, jewelry, etc.)  All rules of the group must be followed and you can still be declined if the rules are not met.
:bulletred: Submit only one entry per member or non-member.
:bulletred: If you enter this contest, please be aware you MUST vote.  If you do not vote, your entry is disqualified.  (I will send out a reminder only once.)
:bulletred: Make sure the work is your own. If we discover it is not, you will quickly be disqualified.
:bulletred: If you would like to make a special artwork which involves conservation and includes wording, several pictures like a collage, or any such thing this will be acceptable. We could consider it a type of art meme which we accept in this group as long as all rules are still followed.

Prizes so far:  (can be updated at any time as we are notified of prize offers)

We look forward to your entries and remember by doing this you are spreading awareness and support for cheetahs. These are beautiful, important predators that are absolutely necessary in Africa. Predators like cheetahs help control gazelle populations as well as other herd animals.  It is all part of the Circle of Life, to quote the The Lion King.  ;)

Thank you all! :huggle:

Last year, DeviantART counted 400 people who participated in the Cheetah Day Challenge, on the 4th of December, official International Cheetah Day. In doing so, they helped raise awareness and helped to save the cheetah.

Let’s top 2012’s number in 2013, and get even more people involved!

What is the International Cheetah Day Challenge?
:bulletgreen: In short, the International Cheetah Day Challenge (ICDC) is the day when all artists use their skills to raise awareness about this endagered species, and maybe, even raise money for the cause!
:bulletorange: The main idea is to fill up the entire DeviantART’s front page with cheetah-themed art for one day, and using this platform to make people more aware of the plight of the cheetah.

How do you particpate
All you have to do is submit a (or more if you can and feel like ;) ) cheetah-themed artwork to DeviantART on December 4th (timezones are no issues!), which is International Cheetah Day.
Try and categorize it in: Community Projects  Awareness  2013  International Cheetah Day.

***The cheetah***
:bulletgreen: The cheetah is a feline living in Africa, and one of the smallest of the big cats.
:bulletorange: Unlike most big cats, the cheetah cannot roar, and it’s claws are only semi-retractable.
:bulletgreen: The cheetah is designed for high speed chases in every way; it’s heart, liver and lungs are three times larger than those of a lion in relation to their body size. They also have enlarged sinuses and can take up to 150 breaths per minute.
:bulletorange: The cheetah is the fastest land animal, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only three seconds. It’s top speed has been recorded at 70 mph (112 km/h). A single stride of the cheetah’s run can be over 20 feet long (nearly 6.1 meters), and it can take fives of these strides per second!
:bulletgreen: Cheetahs have stunning eyesight; they are able to see clear details up to three miles away (480 meters). They use this incredible ability when they’re hunting prey in the vast Savannahs of Africa.
:bulletorange: Cheetahs also occur in different colors and morphisms; the best known one being the king cheetah, but there are also spotless, red, cream, grey, blue, longhaired, black and white cheetahs.

***Endangerment***
:bulletgreen: Ever since antiquity, cheetahs have been captured and kept as pets.
:bulletorange: India has captured all of its cheetahs purposely, using them for sport hunting the way dogs are used today. Cheetahs are now extinct there, and in the rest of Asia.
:bulletgreen: In the early 20th century, farmers in Africa were confronted with the deaths of their livestock, and blamed cheetahs. They killed them whenever possible; cheetah population dropped from 100,000 in 1900, to 2,500 in 1990.
:bulletorange: Due to the efforts of several conservation groups, the wild cheetah population has grown, and has risen to almost 10,000 in the last 20 years, which is an admirable achievement.
:bulletgreen: Cheetahs are still at risk for extinction due to low genetic diversity, genetic diseases, decreasing habitats and food sources, and continued hunting by humans.
